چکیده

Pectus excavatum is a deformity of the thoracic wall present in less than 1% of the population. Treatment is essentially surgical because of the size of the deformity. The most employed surgical options are the technique proposed by Ravitch and its variations and the technique proposed by Nuss. The first one is considered the conventional technique, while the Nuss procedure is minimally invasive and is currently receiving wide acceptance. The goal of this report is to propose 2 technical modifications to the Nuss operation regarding the position in which the patient is placed on the surgery table and the site of introduction of the optical trocar.

Early results following the Nuss operation for pectus excavatum--a single-institution experience of 383 patients.

The prevalence of pectus excavatum is low but many patients are disabled from this thoracic deformity. The Nuss operation is a well-established surgical correction, however, until recently it has been rarely used in Europe. We have performed the Nuss operation regularly between 2001 and 2006 where a total of 383 patients were operated on for pectus excavatum. The indication for surgery was disa...

First Iranian Experience of the Minimally Invasive Nuss Procedure for Pectus Excavatum Repair: A Case Series and Literature Review

Pectus excavatum is the most common congenital deformity of the chest wall. The most frequently used techniques include Ravitch (costochondral resection) and Nuss (minimally invasive pectus repair of pectus excavatum [MIRPE]). The Nuss technique includes using temporary metallic bars without costochondral resection to correct the chest wall deformity. Modified MIRPE can be learned easily and pe...

The Nuss procedure for pectus excavatum: evolution of techniques and early results on 322 patients.

BACKGROUND The Nuss procedure is a minimally invasive technique using a retrosternal bar to repair pectus excavatum. Although its technical simplicity and cosmetic advantages are remarkable, early applications have been limited to children with symmetrical pectus excavatum. We report a large single-institution experience including technical modifications to correct asymmetric configurations and...

Minimally invasive repair after inefficient open surgery for pectus excavatum.

OBJECTIVE Pectus excavatum is the most common chest wall deformity, and both open surgery and minimally invasive repair have been proposed for primary correction. The aim of this study was to show the feasibility of minimally invasive repair of recurrent pectus excavatum in patients with inefficient previous open surgery. METHODS A total of 135 patients underwent minimally invasive repair of ...

Early results of 18 adults, following a modified Nuss operation for recurrent pectus excavatum.

OBJECTIVES The minimally-invasive Nuss operation has been widely used for correcting pectus excavatum in children. However, a number of adult patients require reoperations for recurrence or other complications. This work aimed to investigate the early results of recurrent pectus excavatum repair using a modified Nuss procedure, which were seldom reported in adult patients. METHODS A retrospec...
